Downtown Historic District Commission Guidelines

The Sykesville Historic District Design Guidelines provide standards for owners, tenants, architects, and contractors working within the historic district. Updated by brennan+company architects in 2023 and adopted by the Town on February 26, 2024, they cover ten topic areas: roofs, exterior walls and foundations, doors/windows/storefronts, awnings/lighting/signs, porches and decks, accessory buildings, new construction, alternate materials, sustainability/accessibility/equipment, and landscape and site design. The guidelines are administered by the Historic District Commission, which meets on the fourth Wednesday of each month.
